Where to Eat, Drink & Have Fun in Busan: Gwangalli, Seomyeon & Haeundae

Hello, Orange Travel here! Today, we're going to talk about the perfect places to enjoy Busan, grab some great food, have a drink, and make the most of your evening. I'm pretty sure that when you're visiting Busan, one of the first things you wonder is where to eat, where to have a drink, and where to actually enjoy the evening. You have plenty of options, but three areas are especially great for food and nightlife: Gwangalli, Seomyeon, and Haeundae. But here's the thing — they all have a completely different vibe. Gwangalli is all about the beach, stunning views of Gwangan Bridge, fresh seafood, cozy cafés, and relaxed drinks by the ocean. Seomyeon is Busan's energetic downtown area, packed with Korean restaurants, BBQ spots, bars, karaoke rooms, and plenty of late-night food. And Haeundae is a more polished seaside option, with a wide variety of restaurants, international cuisine, cocktail bars, pubs, and plenty of things to do after dinner. So rather than telling you which area is the best, let me show you which one is right for you depending on what kind of evening you're looking for.

Gwangalli — Seafood, Beach Views and a Night by the Ocean

If you're looking for a beautiful evening rather than simply somewhere to eat, Gwangalli is hard to beat. The neighborhood stretches around Gwangalli Beach, with restaurants, cafes and bars facing the ocean. And once it gets dark, the view becomes even better because Gwangan Bridge lights up across the water. This is the kind of place where dinner doesn't have to be the main event. You can have food, walk along the beach, stop for a drink and simply enjoy the atmosphere.

What to eat in Gwangalli

Because you're right next to the sea, seafood is an obvious choice.

Look for:

  • 조개구이 — grilled shellfish
  • — Korean-style raw fish
  • 해산물 모듬 — assorted seafood
  • 해물탕 — spicy seafood hot pot
  • 해물파전 — seafood pancake
  • grilled prawns and other shellfish

If you've never tried Korean-style grilled shellfish, Gwangalli is a good place to start. Usually, you sit around a grill and cook the seafood yourself while ordering drinks and side dishes. It's messy, social and very Korean. If you're not a seafood person, don't worry. There are also plenty of Korean BBQ restaurants and international restaurants around the neighborhood.

What to do after dinner in Gwangalli

Honestly, you don't need a complicated nightlife plan here.

One of the nicest evenings can simply be:

Dinner → beach → drink → bridge view.

Walk along the beach after your meal and you'll find plenty of cafés, pubs and bars. You can have a cocktail, grab a beer or just sit near the water and enjoy the view. And this is one of the things I like about Gwangalli: the beach is part of the nightlife. You don't necessarily have to spend a lot of money to have a good evening.

 Best for:

Gwangalli is my choice for:

  • romantic dinners
  • seafood
  • ocean views
  • cafés
  • relaxed drinks
  • evening walks
  • beautiful night photos

If someone asked me where to go for their first romantic evening in Busan, Gwangalli would probably be one of my first suggestions.

Seomyeon - Come Hungry

Now let's completely change the atmosphere. If Gwangalli is about the view, Seomyeon is about eating, drinking and staying out late. This is one of Busan's busiest downtown areas, and you can find restaurants almost everywhere you look. Korean BBQ, hot pot, noodles, fried chicken, street food, bars, pubs, karaoke rooms and clubs - Seomyeon has a little bit of everything. And the best part? You don't really need to plan your evening too carefully. Just walk around and see what looks good.

Korean BBQ in Seomyeon

If you've never had Korean BBQ in Korea, this is the perfect opportunity.

Order some:

삼겹살 — samgyeopsal or 갈비 — galbi and sit around the grill with your friends.

You can also try:

  • 곱창 — grilled intestines
  • 소고기 — Korean beef
  • spicy pork
  • pork ribs
  • various grilled meat sets

Korean BBQ is not really a meal you should rush through. Order some meat, drink a little soju or beer, add another plate when you think you're finished, and then somehow you're still sitting there two hours later.  That's part of the experience.

Busan dishes you should try in Seomyeon

Seomyeon is also a great place to try some dishes that are particularly associated with Busan.

돼지국밥 — Dwaeji Gukbap

A hot pork soup served with rice. It may look simple, but it's one of those dishes that makes much more sense once you try it. It's especially good late at night or after drinking.

밀면 — Milmyeon

Cold wheat noodles served with a chilled broth or spicy sauce. This is one of the classic foods associated with Busan and is particularly refreshing during summer.

낙곱새 — Nakgopsae

A spicy dish combining octopus, intestines and shrimp. If you like spicy Korean food, put this on your list.

족발 — Jokbal

Braised pig's feet served with various side dishes. It is another popular Korean dish to share with drinks.

What to do in Seomyeon after dinner

This is where Seomyeon really shines. You can easily turn dinner into a whole night out.

Try: Dinner → Korean bar → noraebang → another bar → late-night food

If you've never been to noraebang (노래방), definitely try it. It's basically a private karaoke room where you and your friends can sing whatever you want. And don't worry if your Korean singing skills are terrible. Nobody cares. Actually, the worse you sing, the funnier the evening can become.  After that, there are plenty of pubs, cocktail bars and clubs if you want to continue the night.

Best for:

Choose Seomyeon if you want:

  • Korean BBQ
  • cheap and casual food
  • Busan specialties
  • bars
  • karaoke
  • clubs
  • late-night restaurants
  • a more energetic atmosphere

If your plan is basically "eat a lot and see where the night takes us", go to Seomyeon.

Haeundae - Beach, Restaurants and Nightlife

Haeundae is probably the most famous tourist area in Busan. The beach is huge, there are countless restaurants and cafés, and the streets around the beach become very lively at night. Compared with Gwangalli, Haeundae feels bigger and more tourist-oriented. Compared with Seomyeon, it feels less chaotic and more focused around tourism, hotels, restaurants and entertainment.

What to eat in Haeundae

The good thing about Haeundae is the variety. You can have Korean food, seafood, Korean BBQ or something completely different. If you want a break from Korean food, there are plenty of international restaurants around the area.

You can find:

  • Indian food
  • Italian food
  • Mexican food
  • burgers
  • pizza
  • Japanese food
  • Korean food
  • seafood

So if you're travelling with someone who isn't very adventurous with food, Haeundae can be an easier choice.

Want something more special?

Haeundae also has plenty of restaurants that work well for a date or a more expensive dinner. This is the neighborhood I'd consider if you're looking for: nice restaurant → cocktails → beach walk rather than a cheap Korean BBQ → soju → karaoke kind of evening. And after dinner, you're still right next to the beach.

 Haeundae nightlife

After dark, head toward Gunam-ro and the streets around Haeundae Beach.

You'll find plenty of:

  • cocktail bars
  • pubs
  • sports bars
  • late-night restaurants
  • clubs
  • cafés

You can also simply walk around and see what catches your attention. Haeundae is particularly good if you want to combine tourism and nightlife.

For example:

Haeundae Beach → dinner → Haeundae Market → drinks → beach walk

You don't need to take a taxi from one attraction to another all evening.

Three different Busan nights

If you're staying in Busan for several days, I'd actually recommend experiencing all three neighborhoods.

Night 1 — Gwangalli

Seafood dinner

Walk along the beach

Gwangan Bridge night view

Cocktail or beer

This is the relaxed night.

Night 2 — Seomyeon

Korean BBQ

Soju + Korean side dishes

Noraebang

Bar or club

Late-night gukbap

This is the "we're definitely not going home early" night. 😂

Night 3 — Haeundae

Beach

Dinner

Haeundae Market

Cocktail

Night walk

This one is somewhere between sightseeing and nightlife.

A few tips before you go

Don't only eat on the main street

Some of the best restaurants aren't directly on the most touristy street.Walk a little deeper into the neighborhood and you'll often find smaller local restaurants.

Korean restaurants often work better with a group

A lot of Korean food is designed for sharing, especially BBQ, hot pots and seafood.

Don't be afraid to try something unfamiliar

Some of the best Busan food experiences come from ordering something you wouldn't normally choose. Just maybe check what it is first.

Save room for late-night food

This is especially important in Seomyeon. You might think you're finished after dinner. You're not. There is always another restaurant.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Which area is best for food in Busan?

It depends on what you want. Seomyeon has an enormous variety of Korean food and is particularly good for BBQ and late-night meals. Gwangalli is better for seafood and restaurants with ocean views, while Haeundae offers a wide mix of Korean and international cuisine.

Where should I go for seafood?

Gwangalli would be my first choice because of its location right next to the ocean and its many seafood restaurants.

Where should I go for Korean BBQ?

Try Seomyeon. There are many BBQ restaurants and the area is perfect for a casual dinner with friends.

Which area is best for nightlife?

For the biggest choice of bars, karaoke and clubs, I'd choose Seomyeon.

Where should couples go?

Gwangalli is probably the most romantic because of the beach and Gwangan Bridge.

Is Haeundae good at night?

Definitely. The area around the beach and Gunam-ro stays lively after dark, with restaurants, cafés, bars and clubs.

Where can I find international food?

Haeundae and Gwangalli both have plenty of international restaurants, making them good options if you want something other than Korean food.

Which area is best for first-time visitors?

If it's your first time in Busan, I'd probably start with Gwangalli or Haeundae because you get the beach experience together with restaurants and nightlife. If food and drinking are your main priorities, go to Seomyeon.

So, where should you go tonight?

There isn't really one "best" neighborhood. That's what makes Busan fun. If you want to sit by the sea with seafood and watch Gwangan Bridge light up, go to Gwangalli. If you want Korean BBQ, soju, karaoke and a night that somehow turns into 2 AM, go to Seomyeon. And if you want a classic tourist evening with the beach, restaurants, cafés, cocktails and plenty of entertainment nearby, go to Haeundae. Honestly, my advice is simple: don't spend your whole Busan trip eating in one neighborhood. Try all three. Because in Busan, dinner is rarely just dinner. It's usually the beginning of the evening.
